The blackcaps have roped in Jacob Oram as their new bowling coach ahead of their tour to India. Newzeland are set to clash against India in a three match test series in the ongoing WTC cycle.
The veteran pacer was one of the potent forces in the world cricket in his playing days and was an integral member of the New Zealand cricket team. Oram has played three Odi and four T 20 World cups for the blackcaps.
The first installment of the three match series between India and Newzealand will be played in Bangaluru starting from October 16 to 20 followed by Pune and then the final match of the series will be played in Mumbai.
Oram was with the Newzeland team as their bowling coach in the recently concluded World Cup,he also had earlier coached the women’s team in the 2022 World Cup held in Newzeland.
In a statement, New Zealand Cricket said, “The 229-capped international officially joins the Blackcaps staff after supporting the team as bowling coach in last year’s Test tour to Bangladesh, February’s T20I series at home against Australia, along with the recent ICC T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies”.
The blackcaps are in contention for the final berth of the WTC for the second time in the three edition as they are placed at number three behind Australia and India with 50 percentage points.
Oram, who has over 250 wickets in various formats and has had an 11-year international career playing 33 Tests, 160 ODIs, and 36 T20Is, said: “It is indeed a true honor to be involved again with a team that means so much to me and is such an important part of my life.”
“I am excited to be able to continue what I have been doing in these last few months because they have given me a good idea of the direction this team is going.”
“I wish all these new exciting players in Blackcap bowling ranks will benefit from my vast experience and wisdom when preparing for international game challenges.”
Newzeland’s Head coach Stead feels that Oram who has been an experienced campaigner will help the team to grow further in this important phase.
“Jake’s (Oram) a great operator. His career as a player and his experiences as a coach speak for themselves.
“He brings a deep understanding of the international game, but also experience in franchise cricket which will be worthwhile in understanding the modern player and the changing landscape of the modern game,” added Stead.
