One of the finest wicket-keepers India has ever produced, Wriddhiman Saha has made a shocking announcement that he has decided to retire from all forms of the game. Wriddhiman Saha has been an integral part of the Bengal team for quite some time now and he revealed that his professional cricketing journey will come to an end after the current Ranji Trophy season. Saha is looking forward to the chance of representing Bengal once more in ‘one final time’ but has already made up his mind to his plans for retirement. For the plain wicket keeping, arguable, the best India has had in recent times, Saha it is said, would not be looking for the Indian Premier league(IPL) 2025 season as well.
As reported by Sportstar, even the IPL is not on Saha’s agenda, albeit he cannot say when he would play it again. In fact, he has not even put his name forward for the auction itself earlier this month. Saha’s participation with the IPL still remains clouded while it was reported that the last T20 league Saha participated in was in 2024 – the season with the Gujarat Titans.
“After a cherished journey in cricket, this season will be my last. I am honoured to represent Bengal one final time, playing only in the Ranji Trophy before I retire,” Saha wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Thank you to everyone who has been part of this incredible ride, your support has meant the world. Let’s make this season one to remember…”
Saha was not retained by GT prior to the IPL 2025 mega auction. He is among the last few players standing in the league who have played every single season from the very first season which commenced in 2008.
As for the veteran keeper batsman, he has represented 5 franchises in his cricketing career, those are Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and Gujarat Titans (GT).
