MIRAMAR (USA, Apr 4): A strong tailwind affected some of the events at the Miramar Invitational (WACT Silver). Ackeem Blake won the 100m in 9.84w (2.2), also 10.05 (2.0) in heats, ahead of 18-year-old Tate Taylor (9.95w, 10.05/1.8), Rohan Watson (9.99w), and Ronnie Baker (10.00w, 10.03/1.8). Jamaica’s Lavanya Williams won the women’s sprint in 10.99w (2.6), 10.98w (2.5) in heats, over Liranyi Alonso of the Dominican Republic (11.00w).

Monae Nichols leaped to 707w (2.6), also 695 (0.3), to win the long jump from Taliyah Brooks 687w (2.8), 669 (1.4), and Ackelia Smith 686w (4.3). Kishane Thompson clocked the world best of 14.92 (1.3) in the 150m, defeating Tapiwanashe Makarawu (14.96), while Tia Clayton topped the women’s race in 16.87 (1.4) ahead of Briana Williams (16.92) and Tina Clayton (17.00).

Jamal Britt set a world lead of 13.07 (0.8) =PB in the 110m hurdles over Eric Edwards (13.29). Tajay Gayle won the long jump with 811 (0.0) over Cameron Crump 807 (0.0), more Jamaican wins for Danniel Thomas-Dodd in the women’s shot put (19.12) and for Kerrica Hill in the 100m hurdles with 12.81 (1.0). Paris Peoples won the women’s 600m in 1:23.45 PB of Shafiqua Maloney from St.Vincent&Grenadines (1:23.51), and 300m wins for Sada Williams in 36.23 NR defeating Shericka Jackson (36.51), and for the 200m World U20 medallist Jake Odey-Jordan of Great Britain in 32.43 U20 all-time European best. Star Athletics (Brown, Bednarek, King, Lindsey) clocked 38.52 in the 4x100m with the Dominican Republic fourth (38.70), and Jamaica topped the mixed 4x100m relay in 41.24.
