Born and raised in Durango, Colorado, Travis Brown scored 10th place in cross-country at the first UCI World Championships, which was held in his hometown in 1990. Three years later, Travis started racing for Trek.
“Park City was my first NORBA National win in ’96, and Big Bear was my last NORBA XC win in 2004; ’99 was a big year for me. I had been chasing the overall in the NORBA series for several years. This was also the period where the NORBA series determined the U.S. national champion before it became a single-day title event. I had been second and third more than once in the series but never was able to keep the consistency all season long to win the series title. 1999 was the season I was consistent enough for that, and I was not leading until the last event in Mount Snow, Vermont, where I was able to move ahead of Steve Larsen for the overall title, both for the NORBA series and the National Championship.”
In 1999, Travis finally won the NORBA National Men’s XC title, thanks in part to his win of that year’s NORBA National event at Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah (shown here), that July.
Travis retired from full-time racing at the end of 2004 to work for Trek full-time and devote himself to raising a family. His technical skills have helped in the development of many of the parts and bikes that Trek has produced over the last 20 years.
