Former world champion Tim Tszyu officially kicked off fight week in Sydney as he faced undefeated challenger Denis Nurja ahead of their highly anticipated showdown this weekend.

The pair will headline Premier Boxing Champions Championship Boxing on Prime Video this Saturday, April 4 (U.S. date), live from the WIN Entertainment Centre.

The card begins streaming at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT exclusively on Amazon Prime Video for Prime members in the United States and select countries.

Tszyu Returns Home Looking to Reignite Title Run

Tszyu, the former WBO Super Welterweight Championship titleholder, enters the bout determined to restart his climb toward another world championship opportunity.

The Australian star has been training in Miami under respected coach Pedro Diaz and will be fighting for just the second time with Diaz in his corner.

“This is unbelievable to be back home in Australia,” Tszyu said during a media workout in Sydney. “Australia will always be home for me.”

Tszyu also made clear that he is entering the fight with a singular mindset.

“The word annihilation has been in my head for the last seven weeks. That’s all I want to do.”

Nurja Arrives Undefeated and Confident

Standing across the ring will be undefeated contender Nurja, who enters the fight ranked No. 12 by the WBA.

The challenger prepared for the opportunity with training camps in Italy and London before arriving in Australia earlier this week.

Despite Tszyu’s star power, Nurja made it clear he is focused solely on the task ahead.

“I respect Tim. He’s still a great fighter,” Nurja said. “But the ring will decide it, not the talking.”

Nurja also addressed speculation about Tszyu potentially pursuing bigger fights afterward, including a clash with Errol Spence Jr..

“He still has to pass through me before thinking about that,” Nurja said.

Key Fights on the Undercard

The event will also feature several high-stakes matchups.

Australia’s unbeaten contender Sam Goodman will square off with Argentina’s Rodrigo Ruiz in a 12-round IBF 126-pound title eliminator.

Meanwhile, undefeated 2024 Australian Olympian Callum Peters faces fellow unbeaten fighter Delio Mouzinho in a middleweight clash.

The event is promoted by No Limit Boxing and TGB Promotions.

According to No Limit Boxing CEO George Rose, the fight represents a major moment for Tszyu.

“It’s the first time Tim has fought in Wollongong,” Rose said. “He’s facing an undefeated fighter, so it’s a tough test and a fight that could set him up for huge opportunities later this year.”
