Suryakumar Yadav did not bat for Mumbai due to an injury worry, and Shreyas Iyer and Sarfaraz Khan also flopped as TNCA XI crushed Mumbai by 286 runs to advance to the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament semifinals here on Friday.
On the fourth day, Mumbai, chasing an unlikely 510, were dismissed for a meagre 223 runs, despite a heroic 68 by Shams Mulani. R Sai Kishore and CV Achyuth each took three wickets for the TNCA XI.
The captain of the India T20I team, Suryakumar, did not bat because of a hand injury. He seemed to be doing well after the competition and may have been taking some precautionary rest, so it has been learned that the injury is not significant.
After resuming at the overnight score of 6/0, bowler R Sonu Yadav removed Divyansh Saxena (26) and Musheer Khan (40) after they had put up 60 runs for the opening stand.
After that, the Mumbai hitters who came after them struggled to form any kind of alliance, managing two stands of more than forty.
For the third wicket, Shreyas Iyer (22) and Sidhaant Aadhhathrao (28) put up a 49-run partnership.
In the second essay, Mumbai skipper Sarfaraz, who batted at No. 10 for just six runs in the first essay, was dismissed by Achyuth for a four-ball duck.
Afterwards, Mulani (68) and Mohit Avasthi (0 not out) combined for 46 runs to make up the ninth wicket.
Mulani made a superb 68 off 96 balls, cracking six fours and two sixes, while Avasthi faced 21 balls and failed to score a run.
Mumbai’s fight in the match came to an end when spinner S Lakshay Jain trapped Mulani leg-before, taking his ninth wicket.
Spinner S Ajith Ram was the most economical bowler for TNCA XI, aside from Achyuth and Sai Kishore.
Iyer, Suryakumar, and Sarfaraz scored two, thirty, and six runs, respectively, in their opening innings, demonstrating the inability of the Indian players in the opposing team to score runs.
