The top 170 members of the Professional Golf Tour of India will be in the pool for a first-of-its-kind auction to be held in the capital on Monday, February 16.
The PGTI’s 72 The League said on Friday that leading pros from 11 countries will go under the hammer in what promises to be a trend-setting day for the sport in India.
A total of 60 spots will be up for grabs in the league as six franchises will pick 10 golfers each for their respective teams, for a total auction purse of Rs 6 crore (Rs 1 crore per team/franchise).
India’s first national professional golf league tees off on February 21. It has been launched by the PGTI in partnership with Game of Life Sports and the finale is scheduled for March 6.
Top draws
At the auction, the 170 who have put up their names will be graded into three categories – Platinum, Gold and Silver.
The top 30 on to the PGTI’s 2025 Order of Merit, will be in the Platinum category.
The Gold section will comprise players from positions 31 to 60, with the rest in the Silver category.
The inaugural season of 72 The League will take place across three Delhi NCR venues – the Classic Golf & Country Club, Jaypee Greens, and Qutab Golf Course.
In its first edition the league features six city-based franchises.
