Indian cricket team
1. India’s batting collapse
The Men in Blue got off to a horrific start as they ended up losing wickets in a hurry and got restricted to 59/5 in no time. The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal, Virat Kohli and Dhruv Jurel all got out cheaply against the Australian bowlers.
2. KL Rahul’s controversial dismissal
The controversial moment of the day was undoubtedly KL Rahul’s dismissal which sparked outrage on social media. Though snicko showed a clear spike when the pall passed through Rahul’s bat, the batter also ended up hitting his pads on the same time and thus, Rahul looked quite unhappy while walking back to the dugout.
3. Rishabh Pant and Nitish Reddy’s fighting partnership
Amid wickets tumbling on one end for the Men in Blue, batters Rishabh Pant and Nitish Kumar Reddy formed a great partnership of 48 runs which saw the visitors cross the 100-run mark.
4. Jasprit Bumrah’s fiery opening spell
After seeing his team get bundled out for only 150 runs, the pace spearhead and stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah bowled an incredible opening spell which saw him pick up 3 important wickets of Usman Khawaja, Nathan McSweeney and Steve Smith.
5. Harshit Rana’s debut wicket
Indian pacer Harshit Rana finally made his debut for the national team in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar series and ended up picking arguably the most important wicket of the Australian innings with Travis Head. Rana cleaned up the left-hander for 11 runs to restrict the hosts to 31/4.
