According to Deadline.com, WWE World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk will be joining the cast of the upcoming Netflix romantic comedy based on Katherine Center’s novel, “The Bodyguard”. This film should not be confused with the 1992 movie of the same name starring Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston. The report states that Punk will be joining the cast alongside Leighton Meester and Jared Padalecki, who are the leads in this new feature.
Details about the film and how closely it will follow the novel are being kept under wraps. Punk will portray the character “Doghouse,” who is described as a physically intimidating member of the security detail, known for his loyalty and sense of humor.
In addition to Punk, Meester, and Padalecki, the film will also feature Andie MacDowell, Walker Hayes, Noah LaLonde, and Toby Sandeman. Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum will direct the film, which has a script written by Erin Cardillo and Richard Keith. The movie is being produced by Gina Matthews and Grant Scharbo under their company, Little Engine Productions, along with Jared and Genevieve Padalecki for Living in the Asterisk.
The 2022 novel follows a no-nonsense bodyguard, Hannah Brooks (played by Meester), who is hired to protect a charming superstar actor, Jack Stapleton (played by Padalecki), during the holiday season. As sparks fly between the two, secrets begin to unravel, complicating the Christmas season. Additionally, Punk can currently be heard in “Zootopia 2” as part of the Zebras duo, alongside WWE’s Roman Reigns. He also appears in the SyFy series “Revival”.
