Tottenham Hotspur are now confident an “outstanding” Premier League star would prefer to join them this summer, rather than signing for Manchester United or Liverpool.
Spurs eyeing big signing amid relegation battle
Tottenham’s number one priority is to secure their Premier League status, given that things are looking particularly bleak at the moment, with a run of five losses on the bounce leaving them just one point above the relegation zone.
Ahead of the upcoming trip to Atletico Madrid, Igor Tudor confirmed the Champions League is his secondary focus at the moment, saying: “Our first aim is the Premier League – this is something that needs to be said publicly. It’s a normal thing.
“[The Champions League] is something extra, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to pass and don’t want to go to the next round.”
In truth, given Spurs’ current league position, Tuesday’s trip to the Metropolitano Stadium looks like a daunting task, and having underperformed so drastically, new additions will almost certainly be required in the summer.
According to a report from Sports Boom, Wolverhampton Wanderers star Mateus Mane could be Tottenham’s next big signing, with Rob Edwards of the belief the youngster is set to move on at the end of the season.
The 18-year-old is valued at around £30m, and Spurs are set to offer him the opportunity to remain in the Premier League, should they manage to avoid relegation themselves.
Interestingly, the Lilywhites are confident that Mane would prefer to move to N17, rather than joining Manchester United or Liverpool, given that regular first-team football would be on offer.
“Outstanding” Mane could be ready for big move
Although Wolves have disappointed for large parts of the campaign, having occupied 20th place for quite some time, the teenager has caught the eye, being hailed as “absolutely outstanding” by Alan Shearer earlier this season.
The Portugal-born starlet has displayed his versatility by playing in central midfield, attacking midfield, and at striker in the Premier League, during which time he has created 13 chances, the joint-third highest number in the Wolves squad.
That is despite the fact the seven-time England U18 international didn’t even start a game until the end of December, and he has since gone on to provide two goals and two assists.
Mane could now be ready for a big move, so Tottenham should definitely make a move this summer, but their top short-term priority has to be avoiding relegation, with Igor Tudor under mounting pressure…
