Trade Deadline Fallout: Montreal Canadiens, Florida Panthers, and the New Jersey Devils

The Montreal Canadiens laid some groundwork for a potential offseason move, and being on no-trades

Marco D’Amico: Montreal Canadiens GM Kent Hughes said that he had been working on a big deal with someone and that they can circle back in the offseason.

Marco D’Amico: “Kent Hughes confirms the Canadiens were on a couple of trade lists, but got feedback that those lists may be on outdated information and that players could have waived given the current look of the club.”

The Florida Panthers want to re-sign Sergei Bobrovsky and A.J. Greer

David Dwork: Florida Panthers GM Bill Zito on pending UFA goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky: “Sergei is a part of our franchise, a part of our core, and we want to try and keep him.”

Pierre LeBrun: The Panthers are trying to re-sign Bobrovsky and forward A.J. Greer, which is why neither was moved at the deadline.

Katie Engleson: Panthers coach Paul Maurice on the Bobrovsky trade rumors: “I really think that somebody in Canada decided that Bob would be a good target. So it blew up for about two weeks… I think there might have been way more on the outside on that one than on the inside.”

New Jersey Devils GM on the lack of movement and Dougie Hamilton

Mike Morreale: New Jersey Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald on the lack of movement.

“I just think and believe that there are teams that are in the playoff spots that probably would admit they ddn’t think they’d get there this quick. And there are other teams that, unfortunately, aren’t, like us, but still believe in the group and don’t want to blow the whole thing up.

So I just think there were a lot of teams not willing to move pieces being out of a playoff spot or teams didn’t want to move pieces being out of a playoff spot, but because they believe in those players and want to give it another go. That’s kind of how I read the whole situation.”

Mike Morreale: Fitzgerald on defenseman Dougie Hamilton: “Honestly I did not have Dougie’s name out there. Did I get calls from teams? Yeah. But he’s played extremely well for us. He’s a really good player. When we’re playing well, he’s usually playing well, & that’s what we expect.”
