Trailside Tennis Club in Ormond Beach is undergoing a major transformation. Located at 300 Main Trail, the facility was recently taken over by owner Asaf Breier and his wife, Avi Breier, who have spent the past year reshaping both the physical space and the direction of the club.
“We just took over in August of 2025, and we’re building everything out from the ground up,” Breier said.
What began as a resurfacing project quickly became something larger. The club’s eight aging green har-tru courts are being converted into red clay, a surface that reflects Breier’s long-standing appreciation for European training traditions.
“I remember being on red clay in Austria and Italy,” he said. “I was gliding and sliding and thought, wouldn’t it be amazing if I had my own place like this?”
The decision is also strategic. In a state where hard courts dominate, a full red clay facility stands out. Clay encourages longer rallies, improved movement, and a more patient style of play that many coaches associate with stronger long-term development.
“We’re changing all eight courts into red clay,” Breier explained. “I think we’ll be the only full red clay facility in Florida.”
Beyond the surface conversion, the Breiers have remodeled the interior of the club and expanded programming. When they arrived, there was limited structured activity. Since then, they have introduced junior after-school programs, adult clinics, cardio sessions, round robins twice a week, and USTA tournaments.

“We’re doing the classic things — kids programs after school, adult clinics, round robins,” he said. “We’re inviting everyone from the community to come join.”
Breier’s background is rooted in player development. Before moving to Florida, he ran an academy in Austin, Texas, where he became known for elevating players quickly.
“I had a girl who was around 250 in the state,” he said. “Within a little over a year, she rose to 25. Seeing that kind of growth — that really pushed me toward building something bigger.”
That “something bigger” is now taking shape through a partnership with DME Academy, a sports boarding school that has produced Division I athletes in other sports. Trailside will serve as the home base for DME’s tennis program.

“The kids will be on court three hours a day, plus strength and conditioning, and then full academics,” Breier said. “They’ll be living and breathing tennis.”
Recruitment for the program is already underway, with plans to launch in August.
“We’re recruiting right now,” he said. “We want to build one of the strongest programs in the nation.”
The club’s location inside a residential neighborhood initially created confusion, as many residents believed it was limited to HOA members. One of the early challenges has been increasing awareness that the club is open to the public.
“A lot of people didn’t know this was a place where everyone could join,” Breier said. “Now we’re starting to get the word out.”

Like many facilities in Florida, Trailside operates in a competitive racquet sports landscape. While other paddle sports continue to grow, Breier remains committed to tennis.
“Tennis is the king of racquet sports,” he said. “It has technical, physical, mental — even spiritual — aspects. It demands growth.”
For Breier, the appeal of tennis lies in how it challenges players beyond their natural abilities.
“Everyone has a gift,” he said. “But tennis forces you to master the opposite of your gift. If you’re powerful, you have to learn control. If you’re fast, you have to learn patience. That’s what makes it special.”

With eight red clay courts, expanded junior pathways, and a developing academy partnership, Trailside Tennis Club is entering a new chapter in Ormond Beach — one centered on long-term development and community engagement.
“If you can go out there, sweat, improve, and grow as a person while doing it,” Breier said, “that’s incredible.”
