Training for jobless youth – nationnews.com

An opportunity is being provided for young people between the ages of 16 and 25 years, who are not currently employed or enrolled in a training institution.

It is a Government initiative for training under the Job Start Plus Programme this month.

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Labour, Social Security and the Third Sector, the Job Start Plus Programme was launched in 2019 with the aim of assisting with the overall reduction in youth unemployment.

A key objective is to help the youth take their first step towards a brighter career in Barbados by preparing them for the workplace and offering them the opportunity to gain meaningful work experience.

Interested people are to register online for the next set of training, scheduled to commence next month.

The registration deadline is Wednesday, August 28.

The Job Start Plus Programme seeks to bridge the gap between job seekers and

employers in Barbados, through the delivery of tailored training, career guidance and direct placement opportunities. It empowers participants to develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in today’s competitive job market.

The two-week World of Work training workshops, in which the youth will participate, focus on workforce preparation and personal development skills. This includes areas such as effective communication, teamwork, conflict resolution, anger management, work ethics, resumé writing, effective job search strategies and interview techniques.

With an emphasis also on inclusivity and growth, the Job Start Plus Programme collaborates with local businesses to ensure that participants have the support they need in order to thrive. (PR)
