Travis Head has downplayed Sunil Gavaskar’s comments on Josh Hazlewood.
The Aussie batter Travis Head has hit back at Sunil Gavaskar for his statement on Josh Hazlewood a couple of days back. In his column for Sportstar, Gavaskar wrote that no one noticed anything wrong with Hazlewood at the press conference, hinting he was dropped for his comments for Aussie batters.
“Hazlewood is out of the second Test and possibly the series too with a supposed side strain. Strange, that, since nobody had noticed anything wrong with Hazlewood at that media conference.”
However, Travis Head has de-emphasised Gavaskar’s words, calling them “pretty funny”. On The Willow Podcast, he also downplayed the talks about rifts in the Australia dressing room.
“I was surprised at Sunny’s comments. They were pretty funny. Dropping ‘Hoff’ (Hazlewood), and throwing a couple of daggers and shooting across the bow, but who cares? It is what it is. Everyone is paid to have an opinion. He’s in the entertainment business, as a few teams around the world would say. He’s in the commentary team. If that makes it more fun for him, then go for it.”
Scott Boland replaces Josh Hazlewood for the second Test
Josh Hazlewood has been ruled out of the second Test against India in Adelaide, starting tomorrow. Scott Boland has replaced him for this game and will be the third pacer in the playing XI.
Boland has featured in ten Test matches, taking 35 wickets at an average of 20.34 and a strike rate of 43.74 in 19 innings. He has one four-wicket and a five-wicket haul in his short Test career.

His record in Australia is marvellous: 28 wickets at an average of 12.21 and a strike rate of 33.25 in 12 innings, including the best of 6/7. He took 3 wickets in his only Test match in Adelaide.
However, Josh Hazlewood will be a big miss for Australia in the Pink Ball Test, for he was their best bowler against India in the Day-Night Test at the same venue. He played a crucial role in bundling India on a mere 36 in the second innings, paving the way for Australia’s victory.
