Trek has issued a recall that affects approximately 700 of its 2026 electric road and gravel bikes. Citing a potential issue with chainring bolt installation that could result in “crash hazards,” select bikes across four models—Domane+ ALR 5, Domane+ ALR 6 AXS, Checkpoint+ SL 6, and Checkpoint+ SL 7—are subject to the recall.
After apparently not being torqued to spec during assembly, riders are warned that their chainring bolts may loosen over time, potentially resulting in the chainring detaching and putting riders at increased risk of a crash.
Trek has advised owners of the affected models to stop riding immediately and bring their bike to the nearest authorized Trek dealer for inspection. The fix is straightforward, and as an added incentive, Trek is offering $20 in in-store credit to riders who complete the service before the end of the year.
At this time, there have been reports of loose chainrings, but no injuries or crashes as a result. Owners can check to see if their bike is among the affected bunch by checking their serial number on Trek’s safety recall page.
While recalls are never ideal, Trek is at least offering riders a quick, no-cost solution. Riders on affected bikes are encouraged to schedule their inspection as soon as possible to get back on the road—or gravel—without issue. For riders not affected by this recall, it’s a good reminder to bolt-check your bike every few rides. After all, all it takes is a few loose bolts to turn your ride into a serious mechanical—or worse, a trip to your local hospital.
