Trick Williams Explains How “Whoop That Trick” Chant Took Off With WWE Fans

WWE star Trick Williams has one of the loudest crowd reactions in wrestling today, but according to him, the famous “Whoop That Trick” chant wasn’t part of some master plan by WWE creative.

Williams recently appeared on the Laura Rosenberg Show with Ebro Darden, where the conversation turned to the chant that has become synonymous with his entrance. Fans across arenas now shout the phrase as he walks to the ring, creating one of the most recognizable moments during his matches.

However, Williams made it clear that the chant wasn’t intentionally built into his entrance music. Instead, he explained that the song itself is actually just an instrumental, meaning the chant fans hear is entirely coming from the audience.

“If you listen to the intro song, it’s just an instrumental. That means anytime you ever heard ‘Whoop That Trick,’ it’s the crowd doing it. I never told anybody to do it.”

Williams credited the loyal NXT audience for turning the chant into a staple of his entrance. According to him, the reaction started organically during his time on WWE’s developmental brand and quickly spread as his popularity grew.

“It started with the fans. Shout out to the NXT fans. They showed up every single week and they loud and they excited and that’s how special it was.”

The chant traces back to the song “Whoop That Trick,” which was featured in the film Hustle & Flow. Williams revealed that the artist behind the track has embraced the connection between the song and his WWE persona.

“Al Kapone, the original songwriter of ‘Whoop That Trick,’ gave me the cosign.”

Since then, the chant has followed Williams from NXT to larger WWE stages, often erupting before he even reaches the ring. What began as a spontaneous fan reaction has now become one of the most recognizable crowd moments associated with the rising WWE star.
