West Indies stamped their authority on Day 2 of the second Test against Bangladesh at Sabina Park, bowling out the visitors for a modest 164 and putting up a composed response with the bat. By the end of the day, the hosts reached 70/1, trailing by just 94 runs, with Kraigg Brathwaite and Keacy Carty at the crease. The day belonged to the West Indian bowlers, whose clinical spells dismantled the Bangladeshi batting lineup.
Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph shine with the ball
The West Indies bowlers began the morning in perfect rhythm, maintaining tight lines and capitalizing on the assistance from the surface. Bangladesh resumed with overnight batters Shahadat Hossain and Shadman Islam, who extended their partnership to a promising 73 runs. However, the breakthrough came when Shamar Joseph bowled Shahadat with a delivery that straightened after a series of outswingers.
Jayden Seales, who had already bowled three maidens on Day 1, continued to pile on the pressure with another three consecutive maidens, showcasing his remarkable control. His disciplined spell earned him the wicket of Litton Das, caught in the slips, as Bangladesh’s middle order began to crumble. Jaker Ali became Shamar’s second victim, miscuing a pull to the keeper, while Shadman, the only batter to show significant resistance with 64 runs, was dismissed by Shamar shortly after.
The collapse saw Bangladesh lose four wickets for just 15 runs in a span of 33 deliveries. Mehidy Hasan Miraz (36) and Taijul Islam (16) offered some resistance with a gritty 41-run partnership, but their fight was short-lived. Alzarri Joseph dismissed Taijul with a short ball, and Seales returned to finish off the innings in style, claiming the wickets of Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana in quick succession.
Seales ended with extraordinary figures of 4-5 in 15.5 overs, while Shamar Joseph’s 3-49 ensured Bangladesh were bowled out for 164, leaving the hosts in a commanding position.
Cautious response from the hosts
In reply, the West Indies openers Brathwaite and Mikyle Louis adopted a cautious approach to ensure a steady start. Brathwaite was content to leave deliveries outside the off-stump while punishing anything overpitched, striking a few exquisite boundaries through the offside. Louis, on the other hand, took 28 deliveries to get off the mark, demonstrating patience against some fiery bowling from the Bangladeshi pacers.
After Tea, Rana bowled with pace and aggression, consistently clocking over 150 kmph. He found success when he induced an edge from Louis, dismissing him for 12. However, Rana’s fiery spell failed to unnerve Brathwaite and Carty, who steadied the innings with a composed 45-run partnership.
Brathwaite, unbeaten on 33, had his share of luck when Mehidy Hasan dropped him at short cover, and a successful DRS review saved him from an LBW dismissal off Taijul. Carty supported his skipper well, reaching 19* by Stumps. The West Indies batters negotiated the final session carefully, ensuring no further damage and keeping the momentum firmly with the hosts.

Jayden Seales, you sneaky bowling wizard!
10 maidens, 5 runs conceded, 4 wickets – he’s got the most economical figure in Tests since Majid Khan on 1 April 1977 (min. 10 overs bowled). #WTC25 #WIvBAN pic.twitter.com/cF3uQEwvqa

Jayden Seales is one of the most underappreciated pacers of today. In 7 Tests this WTC cycle, he has 34 wkts @ 19.5. Played big roles in each of the three series.
Amazing figures in Jamaica overnight. Anyone got a ball by ball?

Only 1 test bowler has bowled more overs in an Innings with a better ER than Seales today.
Nadkarni’s infamous 0/5 (32) against 1960s England.
Incredible control by him today 4/5 (15.5), insane.

Away from media attention, PR machinery & money power, the West Indies’ fast bowling quartet comprising Kemar Roach (279 wickets), Alzarri Joseph (108 wickets), Shamar Joseph & Seales go about their business without noise. Commentators obsessed with VK & IPL don’t talk about WI.
