The New York Rangers can’t catch a break. Igor Shesterkin has been placed on IR with a lower body injury, which means he is out at least one week. Adam Fox, though, has been placed back on LTIR meaning he is out at least three weeks which basically puts him at the Olympic break. With these two Rangers stars out long term, the Rangers have recalled goalie Spencer Martin and defenseman Scott Morrow. To make roster space, Brett Berard was returned to Hartford.
Starting with the injuries, it looks like Shesterkin avoided the worst. While there are no updates on the injury or the severity, only placing him on IR means he should be able to return in January if he’s able. Now putting Fox back on LTIR, given that he played the full game last night, is a surprise and give the Rangers pause on what to do for the rest of the season. That’s a gut punch and probably keeps Fox out until March, given the Olympic break in February.
As for the recalls:
- Martin was recalled over Dylan Garand because it makes no sense to recall Garand to sit on the bench.
- A forward was returned to Hartford because JT Miller is likely returning from injury.
- Berard was the forward chosen because he needs more time, clearly.
- Sell. Sell. Sell. Sell.
It’s been a fun couple of seasons as a Ranger fan, no?
