Tyrell Fortune offers to retire Derrick Lewis after UFC debut win
Tyrell
Fortune wants to follow in the footsteps of his teammate
Waldo
Cortes-Acosta and knock out Derrick
Lewis.

Fortune made his debut against Marcin
Tybura at
UFC Seattle on Saturday. Fortune stepped in on two weeks’
notice after Tybura’s original opponent, Valter
Walker, pulled out. Fortune clearly outclassed the veteran on
the feet, although he couldn’t secure a finish. However, the scores
were initially read out in favor of Tybura, as an angry Fortune
marched out of the Octagon. Bruce Buffer then returned to the
Octagon and corrected himself, announcing Fortune the winner via
unanimous decision.

Fortune believes he could have done better against Tybura with a
full camp. The 35-year-old vows to show a different version of
himself in his next outing.

“I was just a little frustrated with myself that I didn’t get the
performance I knew I could,” Fortune said in a post-fight interview
with the UFC. “Some of the positions I should have probably
disengaged and threw a little bit more like my coach was asking. So
it was a little upsetting getting out of the Octagon, feeling like
I lost. And then having to come back in and getting my hand raised
made everything feel right… My performance will be better next
time. I will be more prepared, I will be ready. This was two weeks’
notice. So be prepared for me to look a lot different in my next
fight.”

Retirement Party

Fortune also called out Lewis, offering to retire him.

“I’ll take Derrick
Lewis, I’m the retirement party,” he said. “We can take him out
in Houston or wherever they want. I can knock him out.”

Fortune (18-3) was on a three-fight finishing streak on the
regional circuit going into his UFC debut. Meanwhile, Lewis (29-13)
is coming off a technical knockout loss against Fortune’s teammate,
Cortes-Acosta. “The Black Beast” was on a two-fight finishing
streak before falling to Cortes-Acosta.
