Uthappa Tips Shamsi for Impact in T20 Final on India’s Favor

Today marks the culmination of the ongoing T20 World Cup with the highly anticipated final showdown between India and South Africa. Both teams have showcased exceptional performances throughout this electrifying tournament, entering the final unbeaten. South Africa, appearing in their first-ever T20 World Cup final, faces a tough challenge. Before the match, Robin Uthappa expressed confidence that Tabraiz Shamsi’s bowling prowess would not pose a significant threat to the Indian batters.

Robin Uthappa on Shami’s Presence against India:

Another edition of the T20 World Cup has come to an end. The Kensington Oval is all set to host the classic final match between India and South Africa. Both have showcased dominance in the tournament. After being unbeaten in the whole group stage, they completed the Super Eight stage being unbeaten. Before facing each other on the final stage, both are standing with an incredible unbeaten streak.

Before stepping into the big game, both are focusing on their best playing xi. From South Africa’s end, Shamsi showcased his bowling prowess in the semifinal against Afghanistan, claiming three wickets for a mere six runs. With 11 wickets from just four matches at an impressive average of 9.27, the 34-year-old has been a standout performer.

Before stepping into the game, Robin Uthappa believes Rohit Sharma’s team could benefit from Shamsi’s inclusion in the T20 World Cup 2024 final lineup. He said, “As far as I am concerned, if Shamsi is playing, I will be damn happy, especially in Barbados. And if Baartman is playing, I will be like, we have to be a little wary. Who would I prefer between these two? Definitely, Shamsi.”

Later he added, “I know that he will give runs. Even if he takes a wicket, I don’t care. If he takes 40-45-50 runs, I am done. Because in India’s current batting approach, even if he takes a wicket, it’s not a big deal.”

Ashwin’s Thoughts on This:

Indian batters’ recent form against spin, Ashwin suggests Ottneil Baartman should start over Shamsi. Baartman has claimed six wickets in five games, his last match in T20 World Cup 2024 saw him concede 27 runs in three overs against England, with one wicket. This decision reflects a strategic shift based on the team’s current batting dynamics and opposition analysis.

Ashwin said, “Shamsi is one bowler who will go for sweeps. And India has been sweeping. Adil Rashid, (Liam) Livingstone was slightly quicker through the area. They were able to get 39 runs along with Jordan and Sam Curran. I see this as a very important match-up. And hence, I believe South Africa should seriously consider playing (Ottniel) Baartman ahead of Shamsi for the final.”
