Vancouver’s UBC’s Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Centre to Host First Round Qualifiers Davis Cup Tie Between Canada and Brazil February 6-7, 2026

(December 4, 2025) Tennis Canada – Tennis Canada will host the Davis Cup Qualifiers 1st Round tie between Team Canada and Brazil at Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, British Columbia from February 6-7, 2026, it was announced on Thursday.

The tie will determine which country will advance to the Qualifiers 2nd Round, set to take place in September 2026.

“We’re thrilled to bring this Davis Cup tie to the West Coast and Vancouver next February,” said Team Canada captain Frank Dancevic (Niagara Falls, ON). “It’s been over 10 years since we last played a tie in Vancouver, and we know the fans out there will turn up and play a huge part in the outcome against Brazil. It’s always special playing at home, and BC continues to be a hotbed for the growth of tennis – so, it’s great to be able to give back to that community and host an event of this magnitude for our fans.”

Japan were the opponents the last time Canada hosted a Davis Cup tie in Vancouver, in March 2015. A 3-2 victory included singles wins for Milos Raonic (Thornhill, ON) and BC-native Vasek Pospisil (Vernon,BC), who secured the tie-clinching rubber 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 over Go Soeda. Pospisil also teamed up with Daniel Nestor (Toronto, ON) to win the doubles rubber. The Japanese team featured 2014 US Open and 2016 National Bank Open presented by Rogers runner-up, former World. No 4 Kei Nishikori.

The No. 9-ranked Canadians would extend their record to 11 wins in their last 13 home ties with a victory over Brazil (No. 18). They have also won their last three ties in Vancouver, over Spain, Italy and the aforementioned Japan respectively, all of which were hosted at Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre.

The last time the two nations faced off in Davis Cup action resulted in a 3-1 win for the South Americans in the Group I Americas stage in 2007, with Dancevic playing in the tie’s first singles rubber.

Canada secured their place in the 2026 Qualifiers thanks to a 4-0 victory over Israel in the World Group I in September.

The players representing Team Canada and Brazil for the tie will be confirmed in January.

Two singles matches will be played on Friday, February 6, followed by a doubles match and two singles matches on Saturday, February 7*. Match times will be announced in due course.
