Vaughan Takes Dig at Kohli, Rohit, Jadeja’s Trophy Record

Team India lifted the prestigious T20 World Cup trophy after a long wait of 17 years. With that, an era ended in T20 cricket. Seniors like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja retired from the T20 World Cup after serving the nation in the shortest format. They called off after lifting the prestigious trophy. Michael Vaughan subtly criticized Indian players Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja for their limited success in winning white-ball trophies as they retired from T20Is.

An Era Ended in Indian Cricket:

After securing India’s second T20 World Cup title, three stalwarts of Indian cricket decided to step down and pave the way for younger players. Virat Kohli was the first to announce his retirement from T20Is, revealing his decision during his Player of the Match speech after scoring 76 runs in the final. Shortly after, Rohit Sharma announced his retirement in a post-match press conference, both leaving as the top two run-scorers in T20I history: Rohit with 4231 runs and Kohli with 4188.

The day following their triumph, Ravindra Jadeja also retired from T20Is, marking the end of an illustrious era in Indian cricket. Their retirement came after a 17-year wait for another T20 World Cup victory, solidifying their legacy in the shortest format of the game.

Micheal Vaughan’s Dig at Them:

Michael Vaughan teased Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja for their limited ICC trophy wins after they retired from T20Is following India’s 2024 T20 World Cup victory. Vaughan suggested that the trio, despite their achievements, could have secured more ICC white-ball titles during their careers.

Vaughan said, “They’ll all agree that it is a perfect way to go, but they should have won more white ball trophies amongst them. To think that he (Rohit) has taken another seventeen years to get another one in his hand, I think he will be the first one to admit that they should have won one or two more.”

Later he added, “What a way to go out with a win in Barbados and a trophy in your hand. Now they can sit back and play Test cricket, a bit of one-day cricket and in the IPL like MS Dhoni, play on forever. In Indian cricket, they will be replaced as there’s plenty of talent in that team.”
