A cold morning testing the UltraPack Pants.

Great bike/everywhere pants

No question, this is a lot of coin to spend on a pair of joggers. But, hear me out — they are incredibly-comfortable both on and off the bike and they are so packable, it’s crazy. The Velocio UltraPack Pants are billed as bikepacking pants, however, as I’m here to confirm, they are much more than that. In combination with the UltraPack Jacket, you can get the ultimate in lightweight, deployable protection.

The first time I slipped the pants on, I was impressed by how lightweight and stretchy they are. The “relaxed” fit really knocks it out of the park and allows unrestricted movement without being baggy or tight — just right. I tested them out around the house with my normal morning stretching and mobility routine and had zero issues. The next step was to head out on a few test rides.

Velocio UltraPack Pants Review - Zipper Leg Cuff
Zippered cuffs make for easy on/off with shoes on.

I slipped them on top of the Velocio LUXE Bib Short and proceeded to rip up the local singletrack. With all that stretchiness, I had little concern that they would remain comfortable on the bike. Shocker. I was not disappointed. On fast-paced morning rides aboard the Salsa Spearfish C DLX, there was nothing I couldn’t do. Standing and sprinting or climbing, the stretchy fabric moves with each body motion. And, angulating through twists and turns or dropping off the back of the saddle are all equally-smooth in the UltraPack Pants. If they are restriction-free on singletrack, I have no concerns with their performance on the endless drone of a drop bar bikepacking ride.

Velocio UltraPack Pants Review - Hand Pockets
Hand pockets don’t get in the way while riding and add versatility.

The beauty of these pants is just now packable they are. Stuff them just about anywhere and deploy them at will. Should there be a sudden summer shower or a brisk fall breeze, the generous leg zips allow for easy on/off without removing my shoes. And, the stretchy fabric has also proven extremely durable.

Off the bike, they are truly amazing. For bikepacking, I imagine they would be incredible for evening and morning duties or heading into town. The DWR not only sheds rain, but allows them to laugh off mud and dirt — all of which can easily be wiped clean.

Good water resistance for inclement weather.

Now, the marketing materials don’t talk enough about this, but I’ve been wearing these as my daily drivers for months now to the office, around the house and going out-and-about. They are refreshingly-comfortable and the black color is stylish for all occasions. I appreciate the pockets for stashing items, but have found that items will slip out of them while I’m seated. Keys and lip balm are the most problematic as I’ve had them slip out of my pockets and onto the floor or worse, in the gap between the center console and the side of the front seat of my car (the worst).

Fit: I’m 5’11” and 175 lbs, wearing the size medium Velocio UltraPack Pants.

The Bottom Line

9.5 Stretchy Pants

The Velocio UltraPack Pants blend bikepacking utility with everyday comfort, offering a stretchy, lightweight design that works just as well on the trail as it does around town. Their windproof, PFAS-free DWR fabric moves freely and packs down incredibly small, while the zippered cuffs and pockets add practical versatility. On the bike, they deliver unrestricted motion and comfort, even on singletrack and off the bike, they feel like premium joggers. The only drawbacks are that small items can slip from the hand pockets when seated and they are quite expensive. Heading into cooler weather, I’ll definitely have these on-hand.

The Good:
  1. Ultralight and packable
  2. Super-stretchy comfort
  3. I can wear these all day
  4. Oh, and they are awesome on the bike
  5. Great wind and water protection
  6. Pull them on/off easily
