Harbhajan Singh, former Indian spinner and veteran Australian batsman Matthew Hayden, emphasized on how the lack of ‘big partnerships’ in the things that Rohit Sharma led side was what made them bow down to a 10-wicket defeat during the 2nd Test match at Adelaide Oval.
The Indian batters came out in the open and were battered by Mitchell Starc and captain Pat Cummins, who shared their 15 strikes levelling the five-Test series by 1-1.
In this initial Test of the series played in Perth, Yashasvi Jaiswal (161) and Virat Kohli (100 not out) have both scored centuries in the second innings, coupled to an unwavering knock of 77 by KL Rahul to propel India to a phenomenal 295-run win in his absence due to regular captain Rohit Sharma.
But turned in the second Test towards Australia, Indian batters failing to tackle a perfect attack from Starc and Cummins bundled the visitors out to 180 & 175 at Adelaide Oval.
Just an area where India would want to improve is the partnership. We need to have big partnerships. We didn’t get a good partnership in Adelaide and, therefore, we did not have many runs on the board. Our bowlers are capable to bowl them out if we have 300-350 on the board, Harbhajan quoted Star Sports.
‘Hayden also raises the batting standards of India in the pink-ball Test and calls for a better performance in Brisbane. ‘The batting was just so poor from Team India, and that much is true.
Hayden said, “It doesn’t matter that this was a difficult surface on which to bat; a team can’t be bowled out anywhere under one and a half days. So, that is something that needs to be fixed for the Brisbane Test match.”.
Meanwhile, the former Australian batter extended praise for India’s bowling performance led by speedster Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj despite Travis Head’s scintillating 140-run knock that set the tone of the match for the hosts.
Heyden said, “Bowling I thought, on average was pretty good. When you considered the freakish innings that had been played by Travis Head, 140 off 141 deliveries, that was just something else. Sometimes, batsmen do have it all their way or else.”
The third Test between India and Australia is to be held in Brisbane from December 14.
