There have been rumours about Vince McMahon wanting to buy WWE back for months. While the reports don’t really make sense—the 80-year-old would regain creative control, but he’d almost certainly lose money—Jonathan Coachman has now added more fuel to the fire.
McMahon resigned from his WWE Chairman role in 2024 amid the controversy surrounding Janel Grant’s sexual misconduct/abuse lawsuit filed against the billionaire. He later decided to sell the company to Endeavor, where WWE now sits under the TKO banner, alongside UFC.
“Everybody’s watching our show because we’re the only ones that have been talking about this for an extended period of time,” Coachman declared. “It is all over the place that Vince, in a silent way, has now started talking with the Saudi to start engaging with TKO about buying the WWE back, and he would be somewhat of a silent partner.”
Well, getting a Saudi Arabian investor involved would solve McMahon’s problem with likely paying more to buy back the company than what he sold it for. A deal like this suggests WWE would go back to being a private company, giving McMahon the freedom he wants to run it as he sees fit.
Coachman added, “I saw it on the dirt sheets, and I was like, do you really believe it, but then my source reached out to me today, Vince, and he confirmed that that is actively going around at the company and around TKO that those talks are starting right now.”
If Endeavor wants to make a quick profit on WWE, then, yes, it’s feasible they could choose to sell. What this would mean for WWE in the longterm is hard to say; it may be largely business as usual, but the moment McMahon takes on a creative role…well, that may spell doom for the company.
Last December, John Cena was asked for his thoughts on McMahon’s possible WWE return:
“Well, I don’t know, all that stuff is so above me, but I know, now, he’s out. In my eyes, I would like to think that time heals everything, and I believe in forgiveness. I also believe in looking at the body of work, but I also know there’s a lot of fragile stuff going on there. I don’t know, man, I don’t know.”
“I’ve learned to become more accountable for what I say. Just because of how I feel about a certain person doesn’t exonerate them from being accountable for their actions. Just because he [McMahon] started ‘all this gangster shit,’ that doesn’t mean he doesn’t need to be accountable for his actions. So, let’s figure out what that means and then figure out if we can move forward and bring that back into the fold or stay the way it is.”
