“Virat and Rohit should retire”: Ex-India star gives fiery remark after New Zealand defeat

Following Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s disappointing performances in red-ball cricket, fans and experts alike have started calling out BCCI, asking for stern action to be taken. Many want them to be dropped from the team just like Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane.

However, former India cricketer Karsan Ghavri suggested something even more extreme. He wants Rohit and Kohli to retire if they fail to perform in the Border-Gavaskar series which is set to commence later this month.

Ghavri accepts that the 2 modern greats of Indian cricket have performed exceptionally well for the Men in Blue for quite some time now. However, he also believes that the duo shouldn’t be rewarded further more for their excellence in the past.

“Definitely, 200 percent yes. They need to score big. If they don’t perform, it’s time for them to call a time on their Test careers. If they don’t perform in Australia, Virat and Rohit should retire. They have done a lot for Indian cricket, but the team needs runs to win. We need to build a team for the future. How long will we keep players who aren’t performing?” Ghavri told The Times of India.

Team India will be counting on the duo to finally deliver against Australia in the 5-match Test series as their poor performances impact the team in a highly negative way and on many occasions, are one of the main reasons why India get defeated.
