Indian star cricketer Virat Kohli departed for London from Mumbai late at night after participating in the celebrations for India’s T20 World Cup win on Thursday, July 6. The Indian cricket team had returned from Barbados using a private plane after being stuck there for three days because of Hurricane Beryl.
After a significant delay, the team, known as the Men in Blue, finally arrived in Delhi and received a warm welcome. Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited them for a special breakfast where he engaged in friendly chats with each team member. Afterwards, the whole team went to Mumbai for a special parade where they showed off the trophy to a large crowd of fans who had come to see their favorite players in person.
Rohit Sharma and his team were honored by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. They entertained the crowd with their dancing and by singing the patriotic song “Vande Mataram” by AR Rahman.
Even though Kohli had a long day celebrating, he reportedly flew to London to be with his family. His wife, Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, and their two children, Vamika and Akaay, are also in the UK. Anushka was seen at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York for the famous India vs Pakistan match in the T20 World Cup, but she didn’t attend any other games in the tournament.
