Virat Kohli survives as Khaled Ahmed misses incredibly simple run-out

Thanks to an incredible opening stand by Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma, India got off to a flying start. After Rohit got dismissed for 19, the Indian batting onslaught still continued with Gill also batting with an aggressive approach. After both Jaiswal and Gill lost their wickets for 63 and 39 respectively, it was Virat Kohli who came out to bat with Rishabh Pant on the other side.

Kohli came down to bat at the fifth spot for the first time since 2013 when no night watchman came to bat ahead of him.

Soon after coming to bat, Kohli survived a run-out while being in no position to do so. The incident took place in the 19th over when Khaled Ahmed came up to bowl his third over of the innings.

Kohli looked to drive but ended up chopping the ball next to the pitch off an under edge. Kohli looked for a single and charged down but was denied by Pant. The former was already on the halfway mark to the pitch and Khaled had all the time in the world to pick the ball, run to the stumps and perform the run out. However, he ended up missing one of the simplest chances that he will ever get.

Instead of getting dismissed, Kohli ended up getting a huge lifeline and went on to play a decent knock of 47 runs from 35 balls before he finally got dismissed by Shakib Al Hasan in the 30th over.
