Virat Kohli urges India to support Paris Olympics athletes

The 33rd Summer Olympics start really soon and that has got the athletes and fans in a frenzy already. The global event is undoubtedly popular in India, but not as famous as cricket. After staying low for a while as India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Virat Kohli urges India to support Paris Olympics athletes.

The 33rd Summer Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11 in Paris and 16 other French cities. This will be the third time Paris hosts the Games, following 1900 and 1924, making it the second city after London to do so three times.

Virat Kohli urges fans to support Indian athletes

Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has called on the nation to support its Olympic-bound athletes, encouraging fans to join him in cheering for them as they pursue the podium with determination at the quadrennial event starting July 26 in Paris.

Kohli starred in a minute long video, speaking up and motivating the fans to watch and support the Olympians. Indian Javelin star and Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra was also seen in the video.

“There was a time when the world could only think of India as a land of snake charmers and elephants. Over time, that has changed. Today we are known to the world as the largest democracy, a global tech hub,” Virat said.

“We are known for cricket and Bollywood, for start-up unicorns and as the fastest growing economy in the world. So, what is the next big thing for this great nation? Well, that will be more gold, more silver and more bronze,” he added.

“Our brothers and sisters are..” Virat’s encouraging words urges the audience

In the same Video, Kohli also added how the athletes will be looking to top their highest record of 7 gold medals that they won at the same competition in Tokyo, Japan.

“Our brothers and sisters are headed to Paris, hungry for medals. A billion of us will be watching them nervous and excited as our athletes set foot in the tracks and fields and courts and rings.” Kohli said.

“Every neighbourhood, every corner of India will hear a chorus of voices chanting ‘India, India, India’. Join me in remembering their faces as they inch closer to the podium with the dogged determination of waving the Tiranga with pride. Jai Hind and good luck India,” Kohli said in his monologue.

Events will be held at 35 venues, featuring iconic Paris landmarks. Fans can enjoy beach volleyball beneath the Eiffel Tower and equestrian events at the Palace of Versailles. The opening ceremony will showcase athletes parading across the Seine. Additionally, some events will be held outside Paris in various locations across France.
