Following India’s loss in the 3-match Test series against New Zealand at home, many fans called for senior batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s retirement from red-ball cricket. This came after both the batters failed to perform throughout the series and massively let the team down.
Amid this wave of criticism, Kohli shared a “fresh start” post that led fans to speculate that he might be retiring from Test cricket.
However, the announcement on social media was about his new management team, Sporting Beyond. Kohli said that they share the same goals, values of integrity and transparency, and a deep love for the sport.
“I am excited to announce a fresh start with Sporting Beyond, my new team, who have been working with me for a while now,” Kohli said in his Instagram post.
“The team at Sporting Beyond shares my goals and my values of transparency, integrity and a love for sport, in all its forms. This opens a new chapter for me as I look forward to my partnership with my new team, who will be working with me on all of my business interests,” Kohli added.
“Mini heart attack,” a person commented on Kohli’s post.
While another person commented: “Bhai such bolu to mujhe laga ki Virat retirement le liya,” (I thought that Virat has announced his retirement).
