Former Nasser Hussain praised India for their dominant performance in the recently concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. India lifted their third T20 World Cup title after defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final at Ahmedabad on March 8.
In a conversation with Sky Sports, Hussain said India’s power-hitting and explosive batting make them nearly unbeatable in the T20 format.
“It is a formula that is pretty simple – have a batting line-up that is full of power hitters, long and deep, and that will get you to an above-par score, and when you have a bowler like Jasprit Bumrah, even if you get a below-par score, you’reprobably going up. He is an absolute genius. When you mix those 2 together, they are virtually unbeatable,” Hussain said.
With this victory, India became the first team to successfully defend a T20 World Cup title and also win the tournament at home. They also became the only team with three titles to their name.
Reflecting on the final against New Zealand, Hussain added, “It felt like that, I was going to say 10 overs, but 92-0 in the powerplay, I didn’t think New Zealand were at their best at all, which is very rare for them, the way they bowled in the powerplay. But, let’s be honest, India have been the best T20I side for a number of years now, their win percentage between the last World Cup and this one was 85 percent.”
In the match, India posted a massive 255/5 with contributions from Sanju Samson (89), Abhishek Sharma (52), Ishan Kishan (53) and Shivam Dube (26*).
In reply, New Zealand were bowled out for 159. Bumrah led the bowling attack with a four-wicket haul, while Axar Patel picked up three wickets. Varun Chakravarthy, Hardik Pandyaand Abhishek Sharma also chipped in with a wicket each.
