Vitor Matos praised by fans as Swansea post video of his team talk after second win in four days

Vitor Matos has been praised by fans on social media as Swansea City post a video of his team talk after their second win in four days.

On Tuesday night, substitute Liam Cullen dealt Portsmouth with a potentially significant early blow in the battle for Championship survival, scoring in the 78th minute with quite the finish.

The result leaves Swansea, who now have back-to-back wins, 18th in the Championship table with 23 points from 20 games played, starting to move away from the drop zone.

In the clip, he says: “Guys, wow! Boys, so good! First, after only two days between games, against a team that needs to fight as well. Putting this performance in, wow!

“The back four, I love it how you guys defend. How you guys stay calm when the moment was there to stay calm.

“Marco, Mel, Franco, you three in the first half. How much you run that allow us to win the second half of the game we had.

“Ronnie, Ji, that effort. Not having afraid to go 1v1. Putting the ball, killing the ball. That’s important.

“Adam, where is Adam? Adam, what you did working for the team, that’s what you need to keep going. Opportunities to score will keep going. You had that one, it was good. But it will, keep going. And then, the ones who came from the bench, boys. That’s what we need.

“It changed so much the game. When you guys came on, what a goal! Congratulations. Malek, you don’t understand nothing my son.

“How come he was not there? So, all the others. Boys, thank you very much. Day off tomorrow.

“Enjoy, go out with everyone you want. Good face and enjoy the day off. Because in two days after the day off, then we go.

“But we need to enjoy this moment. Clean sheet. Second win in a row. Keep going. I love it. Thank you.”

Matos said, per the club website, after the game: “It’s been a good few days for us,” said the Portuguese.

“The big thing we can take from this game is the effort and desire of the players. Their willingness to improve was something that was visible on the pitch.

“It was a hard game, we knew it would not be a perfect game but that with the right mentality, the right concentration, the right understanding of how the game would go, that we could be this kind of team.

“A lot of things made an impact in the game. The subs made a great impact, Liam scored an unbelievable goal so we need to keep this mentality, understand we can hurt the opposing teams in different ways.

“We need to improve our game quality, but we are really happy with the win and with the clean sheet, and the effort we put in.

“We know need to make sure we keep improving.”

On Cullen: “He is a boy from this club, so for him it means a lot.

“Having players like this means we can have this connection and when we start having this feeling that we are 12 on the pitch then that will be massive.”
