The Volta Region of Ghana is an understated yet highly promising innovation corridor, distinguished by its rich natural assets and cultural heritage. Home to iconic waterfalls, mountain ranges, and the expansive Lake Volta, alongside the globally recognised tradition of Kente weaving, the region presents strong opportunities across tourism and eco-tourism. Its fertile lands and abundant water resources further support agribusiness ventures spanning crop production, livestock, aquaculture, and emerging renewable energy solutions, including solar and wind power.
These opportunities were brought into sharp focus at the maiden edition of the Volta Tech and Innovation Summit, held under the theme “From Volta to the World: Bridging Innovation, Identity and Impact.” The summit convened students, entrepreneurs, innovators, and community stakeholders from across the region, alongside accomplished professionals with deep socio-economic ties to Volta.
Notable invited speakers and contributors from the region included Eyram Tawia, Founder of Leti Arts, represented by Robertson Nortey; Dabi Daimond, Team Manager, PlayProvince; John Paul Sembvor; Dr Prince Kludjeson, former President of the Association of Ghana Industries; Anthony Dzamefe, CEO of Caveman Watches; and Mawuko Dzamesi. Panel discussions and presentations explored the growing opportunities within esports, game development, animation, and digital creative industries, highlighting their potential as viable career paths and engines of regional economic growth.

Esports and game development featured prominently throughout the summit, reflecting the increasing awareness, participation, and visibility of digital engagement in the Volta Region. Growing interest in local content, community events, and the achievements of individuals from the region is helping to build momentum and inspire the next generation of creators and innovators.
The presence of the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, underscored the importance of the conversation. His participation provided an opportunity to witness first-hand how technology—particularly esports and game development—can be leveraged as a tool for education, youth empowerment, skills development, and entertainment across the region.

With a strong network of secondary and tertiary educational institutions, the Volta Region is well positioned to evolve into a regional technology and innovation hub. Strengthening collaboration, local knowledge sharing, and skills development will be critical to maximising available resources and reducing talent migration to other regions.
As a maiden edition, the Volta Tech and Innovation Summit has set a solid foundation. There is strong anticipation for future editions and continued growth in technology-driven initiatives that position the Volta Region as a contributor not only to Ghana’s digital economy, but to the global innovation ecosystem.
