VVS Laxman’s Squad Leaves for Zimbabwe, Gill Links Up from US

On July 6, a young Indian cricket squad led by VVS Laxman, the head of the National Cricket Academy, departed for Zimbabwe to play a five-match T20 International series that would begin in Harare.

Shubman Gill will captain the team, and young players like Abhishek Sharma and Riyan Parag have received their first-ever India call-ups as a result of their performances in the most recent IPL.

Skipper Gill, the T20 World Cup reserve opener, will immediately connect with the Zimbabwe-bound team in Harare after arriving from the United States.

The individuals that boarded the flight, Sharma, Parag, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi, Washington Sundar, Tushar Deshpande, and NCA chairman Laxman, are shown in images that the BCCI posted on X.

Hurricane Beryl has left five members of the squad—Shivam Dube, Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, and Khaleel Ahmed—stranded in Barbados. These players were either on the winning T20 World Cup squad or were traveling reserves. They will eventually join the team.

With Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja retiring form the shortest format of the game, the T20 series against Zimbabwe will provide the youngsters with the perfect opportunity to cement their places in the team for future series.
