Wales rugby team partied in Cardiff bar wearing t-shirts in honour of team-mate

After Prince William joined the Wales players in the dressing room, the squad hit the town

Rhys Carre has revealed he stands to earn a tidy sum from his iconic try against Ireland in the Six Nations, as he opened up on Wales’ celebrations after finally winning a match.

Carre’s spectacular solo effort in Dublin, where Wales would ultimately go down to a 27-17 defeat in Dublin, was one of the highlights of what was otherwise a challenging tournament for Steve Tandy’s men.

So much so, it has seemingly already earned the prop legendary status, with fans holding ‘KEEP CALM AND CARRE ON’ signs as the team arrived at the Principality Stadium for the final Italy match and t-shirts emblazoned with his famous try being produced.

“It was wild,” he told the Daily Mail. “I had hundreds of different people sending me TikToks of the try with Whitney Houston music in the background. It was cool. Something I’m not used to, to be honest.”

The 28-year-old says the moment has even inspired a range of merchandise.

“Dillon Lewis, the prop… he’s a funny boy,” he added. “He designed some ‘Hang it in the Louvre’ T-shirts with a photograph of me scoring and put a poll on his Instagram saying: ‘Would you buy one of these?’

“Around 800 people said yes so he released 40 and they sold straight away. I don’t know how many more he’s sold but he’s made a bit of cash! We’re splitting the money three ways with the cameraman.

“I’ll be invoicing him soon. The bank of Carre!”

Before their final game with Italy, Wales hadn’t won a Six Nations Test for three years, but Carre believes there have been some real signs of progress during this most recent campaign.

The celebrations after that win over the Azzurri included a visit from royalty and lively trip to town, where the now infamous Carre t-shirts were also given an outing.

“Prince William came into the changing room after the game,” Carre add. “I was on cloud nine. It was nice to come together at the end and get that win after such a long wait.

“My old man’s a taxi driver in Cardiff. He works hard, bless him. I bet he’s caught a few people slagging the boys off but he doesn’t tell me.

“I don’t blame people for being p***ed off. But the progression we showed week to week in the Six Nations has given us some belief. We know we can hang in games and we know we can win games.”
