Cardiff Rugby winger Josh Adams spoke frankly about Wales’ loss to England and made an emotional admission in his post-match interview
Josh Adams fought back tears in his live TV interview after Wales were thumped 48-7 by England in their opening match of the 2026 Six Nations.
Steve Borthwick’s England ran in seven tries at Allianz Stadium, with winger Henry Arundell scoring a hat-trick. Wales received four yellow cards and their discipline was poor throughout the game. They got on the scoresheet through Adams in the second half to save some pride but were ultimately outmuscled by a far superior English side.
Speaking to S4C after the game, Cardiff Rugby winger Adams appeared close to tears as he admitted he was feeling “a bit emotional” after another tough loss and explained what went wrong for Steve Tandy’s side.

“Really disappointing,” began Adams. “Some things we did well, maybe, some high balls brought us into their 22 but not good enough with the ball.
“England fought for the ball more, they were harder in the tackling depth than us, they were playing attractive rugby and their passing was great, but we were playing with 13 for large parts of the game, which was very hard.
“As you know when you play a team like England as they’re playing now it’s really difficult to play with 13 men on the field so when we have a yellow card after a yellow card it’s really hard to stay in the game and the pressure just comes to you. I’m a bit emotional to be honest because it means a lot to me to play for Wales and to come here and play England it’s hard to take.
“Yeah it is extremely important for the older boys to try and be a role model when stuff like this happens. It’s important to keep the spirit and remember we have another four games.
“We’re home next week we must be better we must be in the game next week
“Yeah, I am really desperate. It means a lot to me and it’s hard you know when you play a hard game and we’ll look back at this and we’ll fight again next week.”
Taine Plumtree, Ben Thomas, Nicky Smith and Dewi Lake were all sin-binned for differing infringements in a game that was defined by Wales’ indiscipline.
It marks 1,064 days since Wales last won a Six Nations match so it’s no surprise Adams was emotional at the full time whistle. Wales will need to regroup before next weeks’ clash against France.
Les Bleus physically dominated Ireland on Thursday evening and will provide Tandy’s players with the ultimate test in Cardiff. Mickaël Guillard and Charles Ollivon bullied the Irish forwards so Wales will have an incredibly tough task up front.
