Warriors explode out of halftime to put away Mount St. Mary’s on the road and remain atop the MAAC standings

Ernest Shelton poured in 27 points as Merrimack rolled past Mount St. Mary’s, 87–70, on Thursday night.

The Warriors blew the game open after halftime, ripping off a 23–0 run to create decisive separation and never looking back.

“I thought the second half we really kind of settled down on both ends,” Merrimack head coach Joe Gallo said.

Shelton went 7-for-13 from the field, knocking down five of his 10 attempts from 3-point range, and was a perfect 8-for-8 at the line for the Warriors (15–9, 11–2 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference). Kevair Kennedy added 25 points on 8-of-13 shooting, went 9-for-12 from the free-throw line, and dished out seven assists. Andres Marrero chipped in 10 points, hitting 3 of 6 from beyond the arc.

Merrimack stays on the road Saturday, traveling to Rider for a 7 p.m. tip.
