The 23rd match of The Hundred 2024 saw a thrilling clash between London Spirit and Manchester Originals at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground. The contest won by Manchester, thanks to the all-round performance by their batters and bowlers.

Defending their total of 135/5, Manchester’s bowling attack, especially Fazalhaq Farooqi kept London Spirit batters on bay. He delivered a sensational spell of fast bowling and dominated the proceedings.

Fazalhaq Farooqi dismisses Ollie Pope with a beauty

During London Spirit’s chase, Farooqi was delivering absolute thunderbolts. He bowled 20 balls and bagged three wickets, including 10 dot deliveries. One of his dismissals grabbed maximum eyeballs as he dismissed Ollie Pope for a golden duck with an absolute ripper.

It all happened on the 6th ball of the London Spirit chase when Farooqi bowled a brilliant in-swinger to Pope who failed to read it properly as the white leather breached his defense and shattered the stumps.

Phil Salt shines with the bat

Speaking about the game, which went down to the wire, Manchester Originals emerged victorious by 12 runs against London Spirit. Notably, the Spirit won the toss and opted to bowl first, aiming to restrict the Manchester Originals to a modest total. The Originals, however, managed to post a competitive score of 135/5 from their 100 balls.

Opener Phil Salt played a crucial role at the top of the order, scoring a fluent 58 off 41 deliveries, while Max Holden provided valuable support with 38 off 29 balls. Richard Gleeson and Olly Stone were the pick of the bowlers for London Spirit, each claiming two wickets and keeping the pressure on the Manchester batters.

Chasing 136 for victory, London Spirit found themselves in a challenging position despite a solid innings from Keaton Jennings, who remained unbeaten on 61 off 50 balls. Shimron Hetmyer also contributed with a brisk 44 off 35 deliveries, but the Manchester Originals’ bowlers, led by Farooqi, who took 3/24, managed to stifle the run chase.

London Spirit ultimately fell short of the target, finishing their innings at 123/5 from their 100 balls. The Originals’ disciplined bowling and fielding ensured they secured a 12-run win, strengthening their position in the tournament.
