Allrounder Ravindra Jadeja managed to lay claim to a fighting half-century that kept India alive in the fourth day of a Test match against Australia in Brisbane. Jadeja reached his 22nd Test fifty of his career during the second session on Tuesday, which was affected by a rain break.
Jadeja got to the milestone with single off the fifth delivery of the 50th over, bowled by Mitchell Starc and followed that with his trademark sword celebration.
India is fighting hard to save the Brisbane Test after a top-order collapse.
After losing captain Rohit Sharma, India found themselves in very deep trouble at 74/5 but KL Rahul and Jadeja joined forces to revive the innings, adding 67 runs for the sixth wicket before Rahul fell for 84, caught and bowled by a stunning one-handed diving catch from Steve Smith at first slip. That brought allrounder Nitish Reddy to the middle, and he opened his account with a boundary.
The five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy is tied at 1-all now. India was victorious at Perth, winning a massive 295 runs, while Australia managed a resounding 10-wicket win over the day-night Test held at Adelaide Oval.
The third Test at this time saw India skipper Rohit opting to bowl first. Under the brilliance of Travis Head (152) and Steve Smith (101), the reigning world Test champions made 445-all out in their first dig.
Again, Indian batters did not make their mark. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and Rohit contributed to a total score of 27 runs among them. Meanwhile, both Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins struck double blows on the Indian top order.
Rain has disrupted the hopes of Australia with interruptions in the game too many times in Brisbane. While the Day 4 forecast seems much better, so far there have already been three stoppages due to rain interruptions.
