[WATCH] Mohammad Rizwan played for a fool by Adam Zampa; gets misleaded into wasting a DRS

Rizwan took the unusual step of asking the batter if there had been any contact with the bat.

Newly elected Pakistan white-ball captain Mohammad Rizan was played for a fool by Aussie spinner Adam Zampa during the recent AUS vs PAK 2nd ODI.

The incident occurred during the 35th over of Australia’s innings when Naseem Shah delivered a bouncer to Zampa. The spinner attempted a pull shot and the ball appeared to land in the wicketkeeper’s gloves behind. Rizwan, the Pakistan captain, immediately made a caught-behind appeal against Zampa.

With no response from the umpire and uncertain about whether to challenge the call, Mohammad Rizwan took the unusual step of asking the batter if there had been any contact with the bat. Zampa, in response, tried to mislead Rizwan into using the DRS, suggesting that he should go for it, a tactic that Rizwan surprisingly fell for.

Zampa also remarked, “You appeal for everything,” referencing Rizwan’s reputation for frequently shouting appeals from behind the stumps. Here’s how the conversation transpired.

Rizwan: You heard something?

Zampa: I don’t know. You blokes appeal for everything.

Rizwan: We may take it [DRS] now

Zampa: Oh you should. You should

This led to Rizwan signaling for a DRS, sparking laughter from the commentary team too. His question about the potential edge made for a humorous moment and ultimately, the review showed there was clear space between the ball and the bat as Pakistan lost a review.
