He has been a steadfast supporter throughout Shreyas’s cricketing journey.
Dynamic right-hander Shreyas Iyer gave a testament to his sheer batting prowess with a stellar double ton in the ongoing Ranji Trophy during the match between Mumbai and Odisha. In the process, he registered his best-ever First-Class double century and a first for Mumbai in 9 years. This was also his second consecutive ton, after registering a deft knock of 142 in his last match against Maharashtra.
However, Iyer’s double hundred was remarkable not only due to his outstanding knock of 233 off 228 balls but also because of his father Santosh Iyer, who was there to witness the proud moment from the stands.
Santosh has been a steadfast supporter throughout Shreyas’s cricketing journey, and his presence appeared to provide additional motivation. For Santosh, watching his son play such a commanding innings was undoubtedly a deeply emotional and rewarding experience.
This father-son connection added a meaningful layer to Shreyas’s brilliant performance, as Santosh watched with pride while his son strengthened Mumbai’s position in the match.

Shreyas Iyer presses hard for India Test return
The 29-year-old lost his place in India’s Test squad earlier this year during the England Tests after a poor string of performances.
He wasn’t included in the recent home series in the longest format, where India won 2-0 against Bangladesh but suffered a 0-3 loss to New Zealand. Iyer was also overlooked for the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy and not selected for the India A team, which is presently competing in a two-match unofficial Test series against Australia A.
However, Shreyas’ recent domestic performance will definitely grab the attention of the selectors as he works hard towards making a comeback in India’s Test setup.

On the other hand, despite leading the KKR franchise to their third IPL title last season, Shreyas Iyer wasn’t retained by the Shahrukh Khan co-owned team ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025 auction.
His present knock will also play a big role in helping him drive up his stocks ahead of the mega event.
