Cheteshwar Pujara, who is currently out of the Indian Test team, has found himself in the news again, not for his batting but because of a surprising revelation in his wife Puja Pujara’s book, Diary of a Cricketer’s Wife – A Very Unusual Memoir.
Phone Call Controversy
In the book, Puja mentions a troubling moment when Pujara overheard a phone call. One of his own teammates was apparently talking to someone, trying to get Pujara removed from the Indian team. This was a big shock for Pujara, who was already going through a difficult phase.
In a recent interview with NDTV, Pujara confirmed the incident and expressed his disappointment. However, he made it clear that he is not interested in exposing anyone.
“The person’s name is not there in the book for a reason. If we wanted to expose someone… I don’t want to dwell too much into it. Yes, I was disappointed, but at the same time, you move on,” said Pujara.
He added that his goal was always to focus on the bigger picture playing for India and helping the team win matches.
Focus on Melbourne Test & Comeback
Pujara also spoke about his memorable century in the Melbourne Test during India’s 2018–19 tour of Australia. He said that he had a slight injury but still managed to contribute with a hundred, helping India win the match and make history.
“When I was playing the Melbourne Test match, my focus was on how I could contribute to the team’s success. I was in good form. There was a bit of a niggle. I ended up scoring a hundred and the team won that match,” he said.
The experienced batter again confirmed that he will never reveal the name of the teammate and that he has moved on from the incident.
Pujara may not be part of the current Indian squad, but his story reflects the mental strength and dignity he continues to carry.
