In the second T20I against Zimbabwe, Abhishek Sharma, a burgeoning India cricketer recorded huge success by scoring his first ever T20 I hundred in his second game. Abhishek struggled in the first game of the series where he was dismissed for a duck, but came back to his usual self in terms of batting by emulating his IPL 2024 form on Sunday. In fact, the 24 year old started well from the onset going berserk thus hitting a towering maximum over deep backward square leg to open his account for the day with 6 runs. He eventually made 100 runs in a record time of just 47 deliveries which included 7 fours and 8 sixes.
His place in the team may still not be certain, former Zimbabwe batter Andy Flower has warned Abhishek despite his explosive knock, with the current RCB coach pointing out that Yashasvi Jaiswal is set to join the team for the remaining matches.
“We have still got Jaiswal coming into the series, So that sort of competition is exactly what the Indian selectors and all the Indian followers are looking for. Also, If they have got many options like that, it makes it really interesting and great for the Indian game,” Flower said on Sony Sports. However, Flower commended Abhishek for maximizing his opportunity granted by the selectors.
“Coming from a good IPL and then scoring a hundred in his second international match, he should be flying at the moment. So what a good beginning. Young players have to score these runs since it builds their confidence which is needed in self-esteem if they are going to perform well,” he appended. “So, to me he is just but so lucky and I am eagerly waiting for his performance in other matches this season,” Added Flower.
On Wednesday India will play Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club, after equalizing the series 1-1, the last three games will see Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, and Shivam Dube join the squad. Last week, the trio made part of the winning Indian T20 World Cup team that flew back home.
