West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has announced his retirement from franchise T20 cricket, effective at the conclusion of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 season. The 40-year-old made the announcement on his official Instagram account.
Bravo, who has won 2 T20 World Cups for West Indies announced retirement from T20Is back in 2021 following the T20 World Cup held in the United Arab Emirates. He announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) in December 2022, ending his association with the Chennai Super Kings franchise.
The West Indian will represent Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in the upcoming CPL 2024 tournament, with their campaign starting on Sunday against St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
Bravo has already established himself as a legend of T20 cricket, taking a total of 630 wickets in 578 matches. He has also been fabulous in the batting department, with 6,970 runs scored.
Bravo is also the leading wicket taker in the CPL and has been a key figure in the TKR franchise since its inception in 2013. He has so far participated in over 100 CPL matches and has claimed a total of 128 wickets.
Bravo’s retirement marks the end of an era for the tournament. In his emotional farewell note on August 31st, the 40-year-old expressed the desire to conclude his playing career as a TKR all-rounder. He also acknowledged the role that the franchise played in launching his CPL career.
