INDIANAPOLIS — Drake Maye took a giant step forward from his rookie season to Year 2, when he was an MVP candidate and led the Patriots to Super Bowl LX, but there are still improvements to be made for the young quarterback.
Head coach Mike Vrabel wants to see Maye continue to develop as a leader.
“Taking an active role instead of me or Josh making corrections,” Vrabel said. “I think that’s something Drake wants to be able to do, is correct himself, but also the players that are out there with him. It’s something that I think is — and that goes throughout the team, is to try to hold each other accountable. That’s always when you kind of know that what you have is a good football team or one that has potential is when they’re close enough and knowledgeable enough to hold each other accountable.”
Maye was named a team captain in 2025. Coaches and teammates praised his leadership throughout the 2025 campaign, when he led the team to 17 wins. Maye is still just 23 years old, however, and will likely continue to develop leadership skills as his NFL career progresses.
