“When I see him…”Ex Indian batting coach massive statement regarding Rinku Singh’s test career

Vikram Rathour, who recently finished his role as the batting coach for Team India, highlighted Rinku Singh’s impressive abilities that could help him become a Test player for India. Rathour was an important part of Rahul Dravid’s coaching team. During his time as batting coach, Rinku made his debut for Team India in limited-overs cricket. Rathour, having closely watched Rinku’s batting, believed that Rinku possessed all the necessary skills and technical knowledge to play Test cricket for India. Rinku has been particularly successful in limited-overs formats, especially as a finisher in T20 Internationals for India.

Rinku Singh has been improving over the past two seasons. He has played in two one-day matches and 20 Twenty20 matches, but he is not yet a regular player on the national team. He is very good at finishing games in short-format cricket, and he averages 54.70 after playing 69 first-class matches. Rathour told PTI that Rinku is moving in the right direction and making a name for himself.

Rinku, who became very popular during the IPL 2023, played his first international match in a T20I series against Ireland last year. Later, he played his first ODI for India in a series against South Africa in December 2023.

Unfortunately, Rinku was not selected for the 15-player squad of Team India for the T20 World Cup 2024. He went with the team as a backup player, and many fans and experts were unhappy about Rinku not being in the main squad. The head of the BCCI selection committee, Ajit Agarkar, said that leaving Rinku out was the hardest decision they had to make.

Rathour mentioned that Rinku might be known for being a good finisher in T20I matches, but he also believes that Rinku could do well in Test cricket.

“When I watch him practice hitting balls, I don’t see any problems with Rinku’s technique that would stop him from being a good player in longer cricket matches,” Rathour commented. “I know he’s known for being a great closer in shorter games, but if you check his scores in longer games, he averages over 50.

“He also has a very steady and calm attitude. So, all these things suggest that if he gets a chance, he could become a good player in longer cricket matches.”

In 20 shorter international games, Rinku has scored 416 runs with a fast scoring rate of 176.27, including 2 scores of 50 or more. It will be interesting to see if he gets a chance to play in longer matches in the future.
