Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli bow out of purest cricket format
Team India legends and former captains Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli recently bid adieu to their international Test cricket careers. The month of May is already proving too much to handle for Indian cricket fans, as both legends will no longer be seen in whites. While one is known for his calm demeanour, the other is famous for displaying aggressive intent on the field. For those unaware, Rohit retired on 7 May 2025, and barely four days later, on 12 May 2025, Kohli too called time on his Test career.
When it comes to playing experience, the ‘Hitman’ made his Test debut in 2013 and played for nearly 11 years. Kohli began his red cherry adventure in 2011 and played for 14 long years. Both stalwarts have now taken a conscious decision to focus more on the ODI format moving forward. Consequently, they will not be seen in action anytime soon. This raises the question in the minds of fans – When will the legendary duo don India’s blue jersey next?
When will Rohit and Kohli be in action again?
Looking at the schedule of the Blue Brigade, the spirited side is scheduled to tour Bangladesh later this year in August. Notably, the national side is expected to play a three-match ODI series and as many T20Is. However, given the current political situation, it seems unlikely at this point that the Indian team will tour the neighbouring country.
Following the Bangladesh tour, the Men in Blue are scheduled to play a three-match ODI series against Australia. Notably, both the nations will square off against each other in October 2025, with the ODI series commencing on 19 October in Perth.
For fans who missed watching their favourite stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in T20Is, there is more disappointing news. Both legends announced their retirement from the shortest format soon after clinching the T20 World Cup title in 2024 in the West Indies. Now, they will focus on the upcoming ICC mega event in the form of the ODI World Cup 2027. The ‘Rainbow’ nation, aka South Africa, will host the coveted tournament along with Zimbabwe, and Namibia, being the co-hosts.
Conclusion
While both players have shown unwavering commitment to representing India in the iconic blue jersey, fans now can only expect to see them grace the field in October 2025 during the Australia ODI series.
