Long-serving member of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP), Undene Whittaker, is considering resigning from the party she has served for nearly five decades.
This is following the resignations last week of former senators Tricia Watson and Irene Sandiford-Garner, as well as Tyra Trotman, chairman of the party’s youth arm. Another long-standing member of 47 years, Errol Hurley, indicated he will be tendering his resignation today.
Whittaker continued to express dismay at the way she and other members were treated during the recent annual general conference, the final day of which saw her and several other members being locked out of the George Street, Belleville, St Michael headquarters.
“Several of us were not allowed entry into our institution, and in my regard, it is nearly 50 years that I have served the institution and, through it, served Barbados,” she said yesterday.
