Who is Raghu Sharma replacement of Vignesh Puthur?
The Mumbai Indians have named 32-year-old leg-spinner Raghu Sharma as the replacement for the injured Vignesh Puthur for the rest of the IPL 2025 season. The announcement came on Thursday after Puthur was ruled out due to stress fractures in both his shins.
It’s a blow for the young spinner, who was just beginning to make waves in the tournament. Puthur made a striking debut in MI’s season opener against Chennai Super Kings, where he picked up three wickets and caught the attention of fans and experts alike.

Who is Raghu Sharma?
Raghu Sharma is a seasoned right-arm leg-break bowler from Jalandhar. Sharma has represented Punjab and Puducherry in domestic cricket and brings a solid first-class record to the table: 57 wickets in just 11 matches at an impressive average of 19.59. His best bowling figures read 7 for 56, and he has five five-wicket hauls and three 10-wicket match hauls to his name.
In the 2024–25 Vijay Hazare Trophy, Raghu was among the standout performers for Punjab, taking 14 wickets in nine matches. While he was previously part of MI’s support bowling unit, this will be his first appearance in the IPL as a full squad member. He has been signed from the RAPP list at his base price of ₹30 lakh.
Momentum shifts in MI’s favour
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians have staged a strong comeback this season. After a sluggish start that saw just one win from five games, the five-time champions have bounced back with five consecutive victories. Historically, that’s a good sign—on four previous occasions when MI has won five in a row in a season, they’ve gone on to lift the trophy.
