Urvil Patel took the domestic circuit by storm earlier this year and became an overnight sensation after smashing a 28-ball century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the fastest ever by an Indian in T20 cricket.
Ironically, the 26-year-old had gone unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, despite a modest base price of ₹30 lakh. But fate had other plans. His explosive century caught national attention, and now he’s wearing the yellow jersey for CSK.
In that same tournament, Patel piled up 315 runs in just six innings at a stunning average of 78.75 and a jaw-dropping strike rate of 229.93, including two centuries.
CSK’s injury replacements in IPL 2025
Patel is now CSK’s third injury replacement this season.
Ayush Mhatre, the 17-year-old Mumbai opener, came in earlier after CSK’s regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad ruled out of the entire season, while South African batter Dewald Brevis was brought in to cover for the injured Gurjapneet Singh.
Despite these disruptions, the team is showing signs of regrouping. Mhatre has impressed in his early outings, and now the focus shifts to Patel.
